Catacombs Tour Rome,  CHRISTIAN ROME – MAIN CHURCHES AND ROMAN CATACOMBS TOUR will take you for a journey of Rome’s Christian landmarks where you will learn about the early years of Christianity in Rome.

You will get close to some of the most impressive architecture, frescoes, chapels as well as priceless relics from the early years of Christianity.

The Catacombs Tour Rome starts with a short walk from the departure point to reach the Basilica of Santa Maria Maggiore.

The towering Basilica is one of Rome’s greatest and among the first five ancient in town.

Your knowledgeable guide will talk you through the history and importance of this church as well as presenting you its treasures.

Later, you will be escorted to the coach which will take you to the next stop: the magnificent Basilica of St. John Lateran.

The oldest Basilica in Rome and in the western world is considered the mother of all churches in the world.

The ArchBasilica represents a link between the old pagan and Christian eras, as it stands on the site of another built by the Emperor Constantine.

Walk around the impressive five nave-structure before heading next door to the Lateran Palace where you will be able to see one of the most precious relics from Jesus time: the Holy Stairs.

The 28 steps supposedly from the staircase of the Palace of Pontius Pilat where Jesus stood trial is the place where pilgrims have to ascend kneeling and praying.

Reach the top where the Sancta Sanctorum (Holy of the Holies), the private chapel of the early Popes where other essential relics from the land of Jesus are kept.

Return to the coach that will bring you to the Appian Way, one of the best preserved roman ways.

Walking here will make you wonder what would have been on roman ages.

Pass by the Chapel of Domine Quo Vadis to reach your next destination: the Catacombs.

Depending on seasonal conditions, you will be visiting either the Catacombs of S. Callisto, Santa Domitilla or San Sebastiano.

All are an extraordinary sight of Rome’s early years where Christians hid from persecution and where they were buried.

On the way back, the coach will briefly stop in front of the Baths of Emperor Caracalla,  the ruins of a 3rd-century Roman bathhouse
