OVERVIEW

Assisi tour from Rome is a journey beyond the big cities that takes you to discover the real Italian countryside.

It’s a tour that unveils the religious architecture of Umbria as well as the wines and local products of Tuscany.

Leaving Rome by heading north and passing by the Tiber Valley, we reach ORVIETO, a small town of Etruscan origins where we stop to admire the spectacular 14th century cathedral, a masterpiece of gothic architecture.

The Assisi tour  continues through the green Tuscan hills covered in olive groves and vineyards.

Some of Italy’s greatest wines, like Sagrantino and Sangiovese are produced here, in an area that borders with the Chianti region and its worldwide phenomenal wines like Brunello di Montalcino just to name one.

The lunch will also consists of traditional local dishes.

In the early afternoon, after driving along the shores of Lake Trasimeno, we reach ASSISI, the ancient town on the slopes of Mount Subasio.

With the Assisi tour , during a guided stroll through the lanes of this historic town, you will see the Church of St. Chiara, St. Francis’ birthplace and his childhood home, Townhall Square with its People’s Palace, the Roman Temple dedicated to Minerva and of course the Townhall palace itself.

After a short walk alongside the ancient city walls you will then visit the highlight of the tour: St Francis’ Basilica and its magnificent frescoes painted between the 12th and 14th centuries.

Leaving Assisi, we will stop at the town of Santa Maria degli Angeli named after its church inside which, in the Chapel of Porziuncola, St. Francis died in 1226.

We will then drive back to Rome where we should arrive around 7:30/8:00 pm.

A number of drop off points in central locations, in the vicinity of your hotel.
