VILLA ADRIANA, VILLA D’ESTE AND ITS FOUNTAINS. Tivoli tour includes round-trip transportation and entrance tickets to both sites. Half-day tour of two beautiful sites only 20 miles away from Rome: the amazingly-preserved Hadrian’s Villa, home of Roma Emperor Hadrian, and the Renaissance-era Villa d’Este.
The Tivoli Tour – Villa Adriana and Villa D’Este Tour takes you for a journey to the countryside of Rome and only 20 miles away from the Eternal City to discover two UNESCO World Heritage sites.
After a short drive on the ancient Via Tiburtina you will reach the lovely town of Tivoli, famous not only for the two Villas, but also for its natural hot springs and the great view of Rome and its countryside.
The beauty of its gardens, monuments, landscapes inspired the naming of other sites after Tivoli around the world.
On the way there, the expert guide will prepare you with interesting facts about the two sights you are going to visit with the first stop being Villa Adriana, [Hadrian’s Villa].
Emperor Hadrian made this his summer retreat holiday home, although he spent considerable time there as he disliked life on the Palatin Hill.
The collection of statues, sculptures, monuments and frescoes is just impressing: it depicts the lavishness of that particular time when the Empire reached its peak in terms of dominance, power and richness.
The way the Villa was built is very advanced for the times and it utilizes traditional architectonic language and iconography, with different settings given precise functions, all interconnected to each other, which suited the purpose of mirroring Hadrian’s image as a great and sophisticated man.
The Tivoli Tour – Villa Adriana and Villa D’Este Tour then continues with a travel-in-time of 14 centuries, but effectively of less than three miles, to reach Villa D’Este.
You are now on Renaissance mode, different eras but same beauty.
Walk around the palace and gardens and learn from your guide about its history.
Commissioned by a Cardinal in the early 1500, the villa is mostly famous for its incredible system of 51 fountains and nymphaeums, some designed and built by great artists like Bernini and Ligorio.
But the frescoes and the art collection inside the Villa are spectacular too, as the stunning gardens that surround all this.
The Tivoli Tour – Villa Adriana and Villa D’Este Tour ends here. You can hop back on the coach and relax during the short journey back to the centre of Rome.
